Before getting into the nitty-gritty of goal-reaching, I always invite clients to visualize their outcome as if it is happening now. The level of ease with which you are able to visualize your goal is a good indicator of where you are in your process. If you can easily visualize it, chances are you are on the right track.
Practice: Close your eyes and imagine that you have achieved your goal. How does it feel? What do you see and hear? How is your body responding? If you find it easy to imagine it, in the here and now, keep doing this practice daily until your outer reality starts matching the one you have created inside. If you struggle to visualize it, you'll need to probe further. Ask yourself ”What stands in my way?” See what comes up for you.
If you struggle to imagine that you have achieved your goal already, it might be due to a limiting belief or fear. For instance, a person who struggles to find the right partner is likely to find it difficult to even imagine being in a happy relationship. The reasons may vary. For some, internalized negative beliefs about the self, relationships, or about the other might be at fault. For others, the fear of rejection or fear of being hurt might stand in their way.
To move forward, limiting beliefs and fears must be dismantled and replaced by more helpful thinking patterns. The next key will help you uncover your own limiting beliefs that might be holding you back and will help you understand the importance of transforming the beliefs that do not serve you.
